EUROVISION RECOVERED

For the month of September and on into early October, "All Kinds Of Everything" is running a list of some of the best or most unusual cover versions of Eurovision songs ever recorded. Some of these will be familiar, and in some cases perhaps more famous than the original versions, while most will be quite obscure. The aim is to allow you to listen to familiar songs in unfamiliar settings. There will be a new song to listen to every day, with a little background to the cover version and the original. I'd like to thank everyone who suggested songs for this countdown.

 "Let It Swing" (Norway 1985)

 Performed at Eurovision by Bobbysocks

 Covered by Small Talk

"Let It Swing" was the song that finally gave Norway its first win at the Eurovision Song Contest  in 1985. The bouncy up-tempo number achieved victory for a country with a previously awful record in the contest, a fact not lost on presenter Lil Lindfors when she congratulated performers Bobbysocks with the words "I’m so pleased you won. Norway so often loses." "Let It Swing" was a minor European hit, but Bobbysocks went their separate ways soon afterwards although they still unite for special events. You can watch their Eurovision performance here.

Following the victory of The Olsen Brothers' "Fly On The Wings Of Love" in 2000, Denmark went Eurovision crazy in the build-up to hosting the contest in 2001. Several Eurovision related albums made the chart including a collection of Eurovision cover versions by the the local duo Tine Drevsholt  and Mille Lykke Olsen, otherwise known as Small Talk. Like Bobbysocks, they have since gone their separate ways.
