EUROVISION RECOVERED

For the month of September and on into early October, "All Kinds Of Everything" is running a list of some of the best or most unusual cover versions of Eurovision songs ever recorded. Some of these will be familiar, and in some cases perhaps more famous than the original versions, while most will be quite obscure. The aim is to allow you to listen to familiar songs in unfamiliar settings. There will be a new song to listen to every day, with a little background to the cover version and the original. I'd like to thank everyone who suggested songs for this countdown.

 "Hallelujah" (Israel 1979)

Performed at Eurovision by Gali Atari & Milk And Honey

 Covered by Yidcore

"Hallelujah" is another well known Eurovision winner from, giving Israeli victory in Jerusalem, following the success of "A-Ba Ni-Bi" a year earlier. Following its victory "Hallelujah" become a multi-million selling single and a huge hit all over Europe. However outside of Israel little was heard of with Gali Atari or Milk And Honey afterwards, and they became "one hit wonders". You can watch the Eurovision performance here

Despite its huge success, there were comparatively few cover versions of "Hellelujah" ever recorded. We come bang up to date with the Australian Jewish punk band Yidcore (right) who recently recorded the song, giving it an entirely different interpretation, that may not be to everyone's taste.
