ATHENS 2006 : POLL

Latest update : April 7th

This year "All Kinds Of Everything" is doing a new style of poll where visitors can rate the songs competing in the 2006 Eurovision Song Contest. In previous years there was a simple poll where people voted for their favourite entry but unfortunately this can become a national popularity contest rather than an accurate assessment of the entries. English speaking countries and those with a large presence of the internet tend to do far better.

For 2006 visitors to this website will be asked at random, their opinion of a entry, which they can rate from 5 (Great) down to 1 (Awful). If you have rated that song in the previous 48 hours, your second vote won't count. In that way I hope to have a reasonably accurate assessment of all the songs in competition. Also there will be no need to re-set the poll every time a new song is chosen. The only time I will re-set the scoring on any entry is when a major change to the song is made, for example switching the lyrics to English. Every Friday I will do a tally of all the votes that have been cast for each song and rank the entries based on a mathematical formula. This will produce a "satisfaction rating" for each song. Please note that this poll is only for fun, and to give you a view of what other visitors to this site think of the entries.

Update :

With the videos clips now available, there have been three polls this week to allow visitors to select the best preview video of the year. The winner, by a clear margin, was the video of "Everything" the Greek entry, sung by Anna Vissi. Having already topped the "All Kinds Of Everything" poll and the bookmakers' favourite, it looks like we have a song that is winning the hearts and minds of Eurovision fans in the build-up to the 2006 contest.

Thee was certainly lenty of variety in your Top 3 videos, with Finland's scary movie style promo coming 2nd and Bosnia's more conventional and beautiful video finishing 3rd. Iceland and Belgium completed the Top 5.

Best Preview Video 2006
  1. Greece
  2. Finland
  3. Bosnia-Herz.
  4. Iceland
  5. Belgium
  6. Turkey
  7. Romania
  8. FYR_Macedonia
  9. Malta
  10. Switzerland

It's update number eight to the main poll, and and there's been a big slow down over the past week. There are two factors at play, most people have not changed their opinions of the songs, and this week there are fewer votes as I've been running the video polls above.

There is no change in the Top 3 with Greece holding off Romania and Bosnia. Behind these Belgium and Germany swap places in the tightest of votes. This week I have re-set the poll on the Swedish entry, as we have heard the English version of "Invincible" for the first time. Unlike Iceland and Slovenia where the switch to English saw a dramatic rise in popularity, the Swedish entry remains at #6. There are only two countries where we have not hear the studio versions; Lithuania and Portugal and these are likely to become available in the next week and the votes for these countries will be re-set, which may see them move up the poll, where they currently occupy two of the bottom three places.

Other changes this week see Croatia knock Armenia out of the Top 10, a further decline for Turkey, and a significant move up the list by Finland, perhaps on the back of their popular if controversial preview video.
