Over the next few weeks I am presenting some songs to listen out for in the Eurovision selections. Given bandwidth limits I'm only leaving the soundfiles online for a limited period, but please come back regularly to hear other
potential Eurovision entries.

CHARLENE & NATASHA |

|
"Echoes Of Gaia" |
Here's another entry from the Maltese "Song For Europe" competition on Saturday night next. Sisters Natasha And Charlene Grima are no strangers to the Maltese selection show, having participated four times since 1999. Their best result came in 2003 when
"Superstious" finished 5th. Charlene & Natasha have also appeared in several song festivals outside of Malta, so Eurovision would be second nature to them. Their entry in this year's selection is "Echoes Of Ghia" which is an interesting mix of ethnic and pop/rock music and it was written by Deo Grech, the head
of Malta's branch of OGAE (the international Eurovision fanclub) who is an accomplished songwriter in his own right. One thing for sure, based on previous collaborations of Charlene & Natasha with Deo, is that this will be a well choreographed performance, and many people who have heard all 18 Maltese finalists reckon that
"Echoes Of Ghia" will be a serious contender for the ticket to Athens. |

MERIBEL MUURSEPP |
"Mr. Right" |
As well as Malta and Norway (most of who's finalists I have already had on previous "sneak peeks") the third final on Saturday night next will come from Estonia. The Estonians have a rather unusual method of selecting their entry. Last month the ten
finalists recorded their performances and a video copy has been sent to an international panel of experts. On Saturday night, the performances will be shown "as live" and these experts will vote and select the winner. Those that were into studio for the recording say that the most memorable performance came from former
"Miss Saigon" star Meribel Muursepp and her rather quirky song "Mr. Right". Apparently there are shades of "Diamonds Are A Girl's Best Friend" in the performance and this could sway the international jurors ahead of Ines, who's song is the only one in Estonian.

SILVÍA NOTT |

|
"Til Hamingju Ísland" (Congratulations Iceland) |
As well as the three finals on Saturday night, there is the fourth semi-final in Iceland. The hot tip for victory (ahead of Birgitta from Eurovision 2003) is 22 year old actress, comedienne and singer Ágústa Eva Erlendsdóttir, a.k.a. Silvía Nott. The
character of Silvia Nott (a bizarre mixture of Dame Edna and Trinny And Susanna) came to fame last year when she got her own television series, and it became a cult favourite, who's fame spread beyond Iceland. Initially people thought that Silvia Nott's appearance in the Icelandic selection was a joke and these suspicions were
confirmed when the song leaked onto the internet earlier this week and risked disqualification. Now RUV has decided to allow five songs qualify from Saturday night's show and the zany "Til Hamingju Ísland" is certain to be among them. The song
tells the story of Silvia's conquering of Eurovision and in a very competitive Icelandic selection, this could be one to watch.
