"Mary's Boy Child" by Matt Monro
Born in 1930, fame came quite late to Matt Monro as he scored his first and biggest hit in 1960 when "Potrait Of My Love" reached number three in the UK charts. The popular ballad singer's vocal style was often compared to the crooners of the previous generations and people like Frank Sinatra and Nat
"King" Cole. During the early 1960s he scored a string of hit singles and albums. In 1963 he recorded one of the first James Bond theme "From Russia With Love and in 1964 he represented the United Kingdom at the Eurovision Song Contest, finished second with "I Love The Little Things".
Matt Munro also had hits in the USA, but with the emergence of bands like The Beatles and The Rolling Stones, his success began to wane in the latter half of the decade. During the 1970s and early 80s he continued to record and tour, however liver cancer took away one of the best ever Eurovision voices when Matt
Munro died in 1985. "Mary's Boy Child" is a seasonal favourite which gave both Harry Belafonte and Boney M. the Christmas number one.
